Recipe: Perfect Beetroot falafel

Beetroot falafel. To serve, mix the tahini with the yogurt, sugar and some seasoning, then dollop onto the flatbreads with the warm or room-temperature falafels, diced beetroot and beet leaves or salad. This beetroot falafel is a fabulous recipe suitable for vegans. It combines the earthy flavours of the beetroot with the traditional flavours of the falafel.

The version I suggest here is a vegan tahini sauce with an orange flavour. Otherwise, you can make a Yoghurt Tahini sauce which would work just as well. Ingredients of Beetroot falafel

  1. It’s of chickpeas soaked overnight.
  2. Prepare of small onion finely chopped.
  3. You need of green chilli.
  4. It’s of garlic cloves.
  5. You need of coriander leaves.
  6. It’s of cup beetroot grated.
  7. You need of roasted cumin powder.
  8. You need of Salt as per taste.
  9. You need of Oil for frying.

Beetroot gets my top vote for its incredible nutritional profile and its ability to help lower blood pressure, improve stamina and support healthy liver function. So it was only a matter of time before it appeared in my falafel. Falafel, often considered fast food or street food in the Middle East, is actually a very versatile dish. The classic, fried version is what's typically found but there's no reason it can't be baked.

Beetroot falafel instructions

  1. First wash chickpeas properly and drain all the water..
  2. Now in a grinder,add soaked chickpeas,onion,coriander leaves,green chilli, garlic cloves and salt. Now grind it coarsely. Transfer it in a bowl then add grated beetroot and cumin powder.mix all ingredients well..
  3. Now take some portion of mix and make ball shape.Repeat this process with remaining dough and make more balls..
  4. Take oil in a pan,when oil is getting hot.Put these balls in it.Fry them until they becomes golden brown in colour.Beetroot falafel is ready.Serve hot with any chutney or sauce.Enjoy monsoon..

Meanwhile, here is a simple meal that I prepared for you while still in Greece – a bowl of baked beetroot falafels with a simple tahini sauce and roasted pepitas. Easy to make, healthy and gluten-free too. Pat the beetroot dry on kitchen paper and roughly chop. Place in a food processor with the onion mixture.
